ADVANCE AID TO SPEAK AT AIDF IN WASHINGTON
LONDON – May 28, 2010 – David Dickie, chief executive of Advance Aid, will be speaking at the fifth annual Aid & International Development Forum (AIDF) which takes place in Washington DC on July 22-23 at the Walter E. Washington Convention Center.
More than 1600 visitors are expected to attend the event and there will be in the region of 120 exhibitors, 100 of which will be businesses, 20 of which will be NGOs, UN and Government stands.
“I am delighted to be invited back to speak at this excellent event,” says Dickie. “It offers a great opportunity to meet up with people from across the humanitarian and emergency relief spectrum.”
Speaking at last year’s event, Hansjoerg Strohmeyer, Chief of Policy and Development Branch for the UN OCHA, said, “This is a fair in a way that doesn’t only talk about the politics but also brings together very practical solutions with the policy and the politics and those different communities, and that is why we will definitely stay engaged in this.”
This is the first time that AIDF has encompassed the development sector as well as humanitarian aid, relief and development. As well as featuring suppliers of goods and services in the provision of disaster relief, humanitarian aid and the development of health, education and basic utilities in developing economies, the event will feature a number of workshop sessions addressing key issues such as climate change, combating infectious diseases, global partnerships for development and logistics and procurement.
Within a trade-show setting, AIDF comprises conference sessions looking at aid and development effectiveness in the delivery of the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs). There will also be a procurement network examining how business can best work with NGO, UN and government entities. Participants will discuss policy, the needs of the sectors, and exchange best practice at the same place that they can see, touch and experience products central to delivery.
Central to the event is networking and building cross-sector partnerships. There will also be an experiential zone, which will demonstrate the use of equipment in the field in a few different scenarios (ie. post earthquake in an arid area in the summer, post flood in a tropical area in the wet season etc.).
