ADVANCE AID LAUNCHES ECOMMERCE SITE

Advance Aid has created Let the Light In, a new ecommerce site that allows people to purchase solar powered torches and lamps. And for every one that is purchased, one is donated to an African family that needs it. One thing that Africa is awash with is sunshine (solar energy) and this can be tapped to replace energy sources that are either expensive (electricity) or harmful to health (kerosene).

  • Roughly 1.7 billion people worldwide live without electricity. The lack is most acute in Sub-Saharan Africa, where over 500 million people have no modern energy.
  • After dark, millions of Africans living in rural areas are unable to work or do their homework and the poorest are forced to spend 15% of their total household income on fuel-based lighting sources, such as kerosene lamps. (Source: World Bank)
  • Kerosene lamps are costly, inefficient, contribute to climate change and provide poor quality light while posing fire hazards. They also cause major respiratory illnesses.
  • Visit Let the Light In now and light up your life – and that of an African family.
